Meet the Marshall County Health Department Director

Laura Hawes-Hammons joined the Marshall County Health Department as the new Public Health Director on October 13, 2014. A Western Kentucky native, Ms. Hawes-Hammons was born in Owensboro and most recently served as the Assistant Director at the Christian County Health Department. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Austin Peay State University in psychology and health sciences. Ms. Hawes-Hammons brings 15 years of experience in health and wellness, eight of which have been in public health. She looks forward to serving the citizens of Marshall County and becoming an active member of the community.

The Marshall County Board of Health Personnel Committee selected Ms. Hawes-Hammons from a highly qualified group of applicants following a detailed screening and interview process. The Chairman of the Board of Health, the Honorable Mike Miller is quoted as saying, “Ms. Hawes-Hammons meets and exceeds all qualifications for the position of Public Health Director. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, and we look forward to working with her to better serve our citizens. We are excited to have Ms. Hawes-Hammons join our community as she will be relocating to Marshall County within the next 12 months.
